What Is It?
Global Alpha Training (GAT) is a mission initiative to encourage local church Alpha teams to go overseas to conduct Alpha trainings for local church pastors and leaders eager to learn how to run Alpha in their churches.
GAT could be called ‘Alpha Training in a Suitcase’, as teams are provided with training, programs and transcripts of the GAT talks. All you need to do is add your experience and passion!
Teams from churches who love Alpha are running Global Alpha Training events:
• wherever there is a training need around the world (Alpha-matched)
• with your church’s existing mission partners in other countries (self-matched)
GAT is a multiplication ministry; it trains churches to use Alpha as a tool for evangelism and discipleship. The benefits of GAT as a short-term mission are:
(1) it equips churches to do evangelism
(2) it gives the GAT team an opportunity to minister to local church pastors and leaders by the power of the Holy Spirit; and
(3) it re-envisions and re-energizes the GAT teams for local evangelism when they return home.
The Vision
In a 2008 global vision talk Nicky Gumbel shared that in the last 10 years 11 million people have attended an Alpha course, and outlined his vision for 100 million people to be reached through Alpha over the next 10 years. To achieve this vision, the growth in the number of Alpha courses around the world needs to accelerate, at the same time ensuring the courses already running continue to develop.
The need around the world for Alpha training is greater than ever. Global Alpha Training (GAT) has been designed to equip and empower people from churches that run and love Alpha courses to train others where there is a training need.

On average, 23 new Alpha courses start as the result of every GAT event.
