Bear Grylls hits our streets for Alpha

Bear Grylls is about to hit the streets encouraging fans to discover life’s ultimate adventure, “The Alpha Course”. The campaign will run in Australian Capital cities – Sydney, Melbourne Brisbane and Perth, to coincide with the visit of Alpha’s international Chairman Ken Costa.Jon Seeley, National Director of Alpha Australia said that Bear Grylls has been part of a viral marketing campaign in the US and UK for Alpha in the last 12 months but is only now coming to prominence in Australia due to the popularity of his TV series currently being screened on SBS.
“Everyone is talking about him now, he is young, exciting and wholesome. He has wide appeal, he is not perceived just as a Christian but as this young adventurer guy. He has a very direct appeal not only to a young demographic but also to those who have no particular religious conviction.” said Jon Seeley.Bear Grylls, Jon said, was able to promote Alpha in very non-confrontational terms and speak of how useful he has found the Alpha course – “His message is ‘I am a lot like all my peers but I am aware that in extreme situations you are dependant on hope and faith to get you through.’ I think that people who are not believers can relate to that,” Jon said.
Alpha has been running in Australia for over 15 years in churches of all denominations. Jon Seeley said that Bear Grylls provides “a unique opportunity to equip Christians across Australia in churches and Christian groups to have a point of connection with the broader community. It might gain the attention of people who would not necessarily be interested in a religious course or something about faith.”
